Parent Testimonials

I witnessed transformational growth in my high school students who attended the 100, so as soon as my sons turned 8, my wife and I moved Heaven and Earth to bring them to CSULB the 3rd Saturday of the month because as my 15 year old said, “they teach us everything that regular school doesn’t or is afraid to. I took a college course and was prepared because of my Saturday work.” My 10 year old son added, “they care about everyone here and I learn about different people and things.” Finally, my wife said, ”Our kids are noticeably better people after EVERY Saturday session.” As a father, I want my kids to have a well rounded education and I need to surround them with the best and brightest minds and with people who will love them and push them to think and focus on learning and improving. The 100 does that.

Thank you for giving me this opportunity. Please feel free to cut where needed and if you would like me to add from a different perspective or narrow my remarks to their academic growth, or any specific area, I'd be more than happy to do so because this program has changed my family's life.

Well, I originally brought my son to the 100, so he would be exposed to young men from all over the city, while meeting mentors and advisors for life, who have his best interests in mind. As part of the narrative of developing a "Growth Mindset," one of the programs offered by 100 Black Men of Long Beach, Inc. is the African American Male Literacy Academy, which works in partnership and sequentially with University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Leadership Training

This program is held for one week each summer and culminates with a ceremony memorializing and acknowledging students' participation and growth. “My sons have loved the African American Male Literacy Academy experience. They have learned so much about their African American culture and history through an excellent enrichment program while also making great friends and building values that will last a lifetime.”
